i'm going to tell you a story to show you how small (and random) this world is.

today, i came back from rowing practice, hoping to take a nap in my bed. unfortunately, there seemed to be a lot of noise coming from outside the window. then my next door neighbour banged on my door, telling me to look out the window. i looked out and there, below my window, stood edison chan and a whole hk crew of people. my neighbour and i shouted "hey!" and he looked up and asked if there was a bathroom nearby that he could use. we invited him in through the side gate and voila, there he was, in my room and bathroom.

unfortunately and shamefully, i *did* take photos (just two), so if you don't believe me i can send you proof. but isn't it nice to know that home isn't so far away after all? sometimes you find it, just below your window.

random thought>> i think i have more in common with the drop-outs that operate the mini marts in oxford than the students of oxford. so, really, i'm in the right area, just not the exact right place. this is easy to fix. if i move from here, turn left out of oriel square to about 70 meters down the high street, i'll be right at home.

[having said that, i can't be *entirely* sure that guy was a drop-out, i'm just making a very informed assumption]

things i really want for christmas:
-latin legal terms dictionary
-post-it pads (variety of different colors and sizes please)
-newest edition of smith and hogans "cases and statutes" or whatever it's called. the black book with the hot pink writing on the cover. but not the criminal law one. i have that already.
-a box of krispy creme (kreme?) donuts (i'm assuming a box has no less than a dozen)

denise has now been at oxford for one full week.

...i'm serious about the list btw. except i think i'll have to go to get the dicitonary tomorrow cause i just can't wait. how sad is that?

now that (nearly) everyone is all settled in, complaining about upcoming tests and setting off fire alarms [see jaspar's site], i am (finally) packing to leave!

packing is a rather complicated affair. because i'm 1)also moving to a new apartment in hong kong and 2) going to paris before oxford, everything in my room needs to go into either suitcase 1 (not to be opened before reaching oxford), suitcase 2 (for paris), suitcase 3 (sent over later with dad) or cardboard box nos 1-9 (staying in hong kong). gah.

so far i've packed penn shorts, a penn tshirt, penn sweatshirt, penn bumper sticker and a wharton mousepad. people are going to think that i'm at the wrong university. i have this compulsion to bring them all along though. in some strange way i guess i think that by bringing it all along, i'll feel like i'm missing out on less. does that make sense to anyone?

two years of IB art and i still walk out of an art supplies store feeling like an idiot.

"no," says the pink lady who comes up to my shoulder, "the sable brushes are for the acrylicsss, and cannot be used with oils. and the canvas you picked out won't hold oils either. why don't you come over here to choose what you need?"
i follow her and find myself in the section with the crayola textas and plastic kiddy stencils. gah. stubbornly i go back over to the *artists* section, pick out the proper brushes, paints and paper and leave, vowing to learn all about sable brushes, paper palettes and gel retarders before i return.
